At Stirling Health Professionals, our physiotherapists are fully trained in dry needling and can offer it as a part of your treatment.
Dry needling is a technique used to treat myofascial pain and tightness through the use of thin filament needles.
During dry needling, thin needles are inserted directly into the area of tightness known as trigger points. This action guides a small amount of blood flow to target soft tissue which assists in removal of toxins and stimulates healing response within the muscle tissue.
Dry needling is a technique used by trained physiotherapists and is based on Western medicine principles.
This is different to acupuncture which is based on principles of traditional Chinese medicine. During acupuncture, the same thing filament needles are inserted into acupressure points to restore energy balance around the body, otherwise known as Qi. Acupuncture can only be performed by clinicians who have studied traditional Chinese medicine.
